Last week I got to hang out with some very creative artists at the Umlauf Stop Motion camp!! We used found objects, toys, and clay to create characters. We created unique worlds for our characters and then animated it to tell a story. At the end of the week we had our own short films that we shared at the animation festival! Our shorts are posted below. I hope you enjoy them!

This summer I am keeping busy with art camps at the Umlauf sculpture garden and the Dougherty Arts Center. At the Umlauf I got to teach 13 kids ages 6-12 how to make claymation movies. All the sets, characters and stories are their own creations. We edited our movies on imovie where we added sound effects, narration and music. I hope you enjoy our short films! This past Thursday the 4th graders came out in style to celebrate all the creativity and hard work that went into the construction of their animated shorts. Each student was part or a team and had to collaborate to get the job done well. Students became directors, set and character designers, story-boarders, animators, photographers, and editors. The results will astound you. So, sit back, grab a bowl of popcorn and check out these amazing animations! Enjoy! Here is another batch of films from our recent film fest. Enjoy! Here are some photos to give you a peek into what we are working on. 5th graders are hard at work sewing Fear-Not-Creatures to donate to children in foster homes or in need of some kindness. graders just finished making hilarious or terrifying clay gargoyles and are now constructing birdhouses to install in the garden (photos coming soon). 4th graders have some striking self portrait prints to share and are now preparing their animations for our big film festival. Kinders are busy making pop ups and pinch pots! There's always a whirl wind of activity in the art room!
Kids got to learn about the creative process today with our visiting artist Fernando Muñoz. Fernando is an artist who was born in Chile and works as a graphic designer and artist in Austin. He creates colorful and intricate drawings, paintings and sculptures. Click here to see more of his work.
