This week the 2nd graders at Voigt are working hard to finish their wire fish inspired by the artist and toy maker, Alexander Calder. We started this project by researching different kinds of fish and we practiced drawing them before starting on our wire. Once we had our sketch we were ready to begin our wire constructions. The students chose a pair of complimentary colors to work with and then built their frame and supports After constructing a sturdy fish they were ready to add their beads or found objects to their design. Students added many different objects to their fish including beads, bottlecaps, pipecleaners and seeds. The result is a lovely wire fish made by some of the most creative minds here at Voigt!
