We started this project by working as a group to chose our subject and our colors. Then we enlarged each 1/2 inch square on the photo into a 6 inch square on paper, we had to collaborate a lot to make sure all the squares fit together right. Once we finished our drawing we transfered each paper square onto tile and used ceramic glaze to paint each tile. We are not done yet, but its starting to come together to form an amazing mural!
The 5th graders at Wells Branch have been working on a collaborative project to make murals of 2 of their personal heroes: Rosa Parks and Benjamin Franklin. We have been studying scale, and proportion and practicing taking a small photograph and enlarging it by graphing one square at a time. We have been studying the art of Chuck Close because he paints giant portraits that all begin from a tiny photo. We started this project by working as a group to chose our subject and our colors.
